Just over another week and a few more sessions in the bag.  Since coming back from NYC it has seriously been a case of ticking boxes – getting the sessions done. Looking at the overall plan it’s clear to see there is progression and there is a goal. But right here right now I can’t see the goal – it’s that far away. I have to remind myself “it’s 8 months away – don’t get carried away just yet” but it’s hard to understand how a 1000m swim in February could amount to anything that will be required in October.

I guess swimming is the single hurdle that I’m trying to get my head round…quite literally! Since my CT scan my doctor has prescribed me having Chronic Sinusitis and as such has given me antibiotics which are the size of horse pills. These are making me nauseous and I’m really struggling to get up and make the effort in the sessions. I’m not convinced that they are doing any good – if they don’t then I’m straight back to the GP for another diagnosis. The GP surgery itself have misdiagnosed a few times over and I’ve been pushed around a few doctors but the current one seems to want to get it right so at least that’s promising.

The running is a proper struggle at the moment, lower back pain (tight hamstrings) have stopped any distance recently and the antibiotics are making me proper asthmatic too. It’s a good job not much is demanded so far out from Barcelona, I don’t know if I could cope if it was only a few months/weeks away and I was getting all these niggles.

The biking seems to be where it usually is at this time of year but I’ve noticed there’s no zap in my sprint as there has been previously – I can only put this down to the fatigue from the other disciplines. I guess it’s also to do with my training regime at the moment too – I’m concentrating on Sweet Spot and Threshold sessions and not that supra-threshold stuff as I have done in previous years. This is clearly showing when I’m out with the DAP guys, the small “redlines” when you’re out on the bike are something I’m not used to on an indoor trainer. More road work required over the next few weeks I think!

For the TP Geeks out there 723TSS last week. 300km of cycling, 11km running & 2k swimming. My fitness currently sits at 72, my fatigue at 107 and my form at -15! In fairness I think it’s safe to say I’m not at the point I could race yet!

Just getting those boxes ticked and thinking of Majorca in a few weeks’ time.
